Worthington Photography LLC is a husband-wife team of two photographers, Sam and Melissa (or just Mel, as she prefers).  We literally met in the darkroom when Mel was in graduate school for photography and Sam was teaching undergraduates.  Mel was never Sam’s student, though that would make the story more interesting.

We are partners in all ways: parents to a grumpy, old border collie and a kitty diva, construction partners in the never ending restoration of our  historic home, and business partners as co-owners of Worthington Photography LLC based in the “rivah city” of Richmond, Virginia.  We bring different skills to the weddings we shoot together: Mel focuses on details and emotions while Sam uses his height and wide angle lens to document the party.

We are both professional artists as well as photographers.  Sam works with antique photographic processses to create one-of-a-kind modified landscape pieces.  He is represented by the Schmidt Dean Gallery in Philadelphia and his work is part of several private collections including the prestigious Philadelphia Museum and Library of Philadelphia.  Mel creates conceptual art pieces that have been displayed in university and public art spaces across the country.  She has been invited to present her work at national conferences and enjoys any opportunity to share her visual ideas.  We are both recent recipients of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship for professional artists, we both earned our MFAs in photography from Virginia Commonwealth University and have years of experience teaching photography at the college level.  We both continue to teach: Sam teaches in the Sculpture Department at VCU each fall while Mel leads after school photography programs for Art 180.
