Emily and Gabe’s Engagement Photos

June 7th, 2010

Before we get back to sharing the Memorial Day weekend festivities, I want to sneak some engagement photos in here that we took the week before on the University of Virginia’s campus in Charlottesville where Emily and Gabe met in grad school.  They are both finishing up their medical degrees and leaning towards pediatrics so Sam made me promise not to call their phones in the middle of the night with questions.

We took Emily’s amazing bridals at beautiful Virginia House in Richmond to kick off our shooting weekend.  Sadly we have to keep those under lock and key until after the wedding so you’ll have to stay tuned…

Here’s a slideshow from the e-session and click here to see their online gallery.  We’re excited for Emily and Gabe’s wedding at the newly renovated Virginia Museum of Fine Arts this coming August, congrats once again to you both!

Erica and Mark’s Engagement Portraits

March 25th, 2010

Last fall Erica and Mark drove all the way down to Richmond from the DC area to take a few pictures among the leaves.  We started at Maymont knowing that the color in the Japanese gardens is just spectacular, and it was.  As we worked, we decided that a more historic environment, specifically Worthington Photography’s home neighborhood of Church Hill, might better suit the couple preparing to tie the knot in Old Town Alexandria this May.

Erica and Mark are so friendly, so in love, and so sweet in front of a camera that we know we’re in for a treat at their wedding.  Congrats again to the two of you, the big day will be here before we know it!  If you want to visit their online gallery click here.

Jennifer and Chris’ Engagement Portraits

February 24th, 2010

This post dates back to the fall season when I was back to shooting but still out on maternity leave from the office (and therefore blogging).  Jennifer and Chris cruised with us through our familiar neighborhood of Church Hill for a few shots before we headed out for our adventure destination, the Pipe Line, where we got a unique industrial view of the city from the banks of the James.

While most couples with height differences request pictures that de-emphasize the distance, Jennifer and Chris requested shots that celebrated it… its part of who they are together.  I think we all had some fun with that:

The warm, last light out on the river gave these shots an antique glow: we didn’t use any filters or post production trickery to create this color, it was all Mother Nature:

We’re looking forward to shooting for Jenn at beautiful Tuckahoe Plantation this May.  With the snow melting at a fast pace, I’m choosing to believe that spring is right around the corner!  Congrats you guys…

Liz and David’s Engagement Session

January 7th, 2010

Liz and David wanted some urban shots around downtown Richmond so they headed out with Sam on a beautiful fall day to colorful and scenic spots around town.  I’m especially fond of the way the colors jive in front of the Globe Hopper coffee shop:

It was a lucky excursion: in addition to beautiful light, they also hit the tracks near the pipeline just as a train was passing through.  I love this shot especially, Liz and David’s expressions are so sweet with the evening hatch catching the light of late day, adding a little extra photo magic… Who would believe that a swarm of bugs could add such a romantic visual element?  Sam and I are always on the look out for what we call “magic bugs”…

Liz and David are such a dynamic couple, we can’t wait for their wedding in April.  Check out their online gallery with more shots here!
