Baby Reese is Walking

It was snowing like crazy the morning of our shoot, a phenomenon almost hard to believe in this unseasonably early spring.  Brayden and I bundled up to go outside and catch one last, fleeting moment of winter but the moment the boots went on the snow went off.  It was kind of anti-climatic, Brayden made one snowball in his snowsuit and then decided it was time to go back inside!

But the kid is smart.  He knows the tradition that follows playing in the snow…  Hot chocolate, of course!  He was eager to earn and then show off his chocolate moustache.  What a handsome chocolate sipper, I liked these mug shots (knuck, knuck):

There are a few levels of crazy going on in this sequence.  It starts with a crazy face, which somehow got crazy hair, which then made his mother crazy, and then it was just back to plain ol’ crazy face.

Just as we finished our sipping it was time to wake Reese from her nap.  She’s going through a bit of stranger anxiety, a completely understandable developmental thing most babies go through once they get mobile.  Its nature’s way of making sure that just because you can run away doesn’t mean you will.

When she got out of her crib and saw me with my camera, she crawled into Momma’s lap.  While I hated to be the cause of such trauma, this photo just sings right to my mommy heart.

It took some doing but eventually Reese warmed up just a little, or at least enough to show me her new skills!

And then she got a little flirty…

See this smile?

Wonder how we got it?  Sometimes I think the pictures of what’s going on behind me in a given shoot are every bit as revealing about a family as the shots in front of my lens.

I had such a lovely pseudo snow day with this family.  Its bittersweet, these one year shoots, because I know my photo journey comes to a pause until another big birthday or milestone arrives.  I’m so grateful to have photographed the first year of both of these children’s lives, its been a joy to watch Amy and Jeff grow into a family and then to watch their family grow.   Thank you, Amy and Jeff, for inviting me into it!  Here’s the slideshow and gallery to check out…
